“Many waters cannot quench love; neither can the floods drown it” -- Song of Silence, Solomon 8:7
Dear Friends,
Not long after Hurricane Katrina I received a note with a very nice contribution from a church in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The Pastor of that Congregation noted the verse from the Song of Solomon stated above. It has always stayed with me that no matter how much water comes in, it can’t drown the love that people have for one another.
The devastation recently suffered by our friends in the Greater Baton Rouge area reminded me of it. It is sad and amazing to see the terrible destruction that has taken place. I am very proud that Volunteers of America in Baton Rouge is working hard to help restore services and to assist the 80 plus staff of their organization who had flooded homes. I am also very proud of the Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans staff for the assistance that we have provided. A large group of staff and friends spent a weekend in Baton Rouge helping to clean out flooded homes of Baton Rouge staff. In addition, our care coordinators in Supported Services for Veteran Families spent a weekend doing outreach to assist veterans and their families in the Baton Rouge area.
I don’t know why these natural catastrophes keep happening. I only know that love and faith will get us through the great floods of 2016 just as it did with Katrina. If any of you are interested in assisting in your free time, I know that volunteers are still needed to help in the Baton Rouge area. Please contact our Volunteer Services department and they can set something up for you. Remember, we are all one big family and we are all in this together—and together we will all get through this.
Until next time, take care and God bless.

Minister's Message by Guest Minister Pam Scott
It's Our Time!
I was reading an article that said, “Whether these are the best of times or the worst of times; it’s the only time we got.” It’s our time to honor God as we serve His people. Remember what Moses said when God chose him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. Moses did not believe he was the man for the job. But Moses said to God, "Who I am, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt?" And God said, “I will be with you.” (Exodus 3:11-12)
We have been given the opportunity to honor God through our service to His people. Let’s honor Him by helping those who have been affected by the recent flooding in our area. We are the people for the job, just as Moses was the man for the job. God is with us! We can do it. IT’S OUR TIME!
