Working Together Toward a Common Goal for Veterans

Around Memorial Day, there’s always a renewed focus on our service men and women and the sacrifices made by America’s veterans. The focus has been especially intense this year, as Congress and the media turn their attention to the recent controversies concerning the U.S Department of Veterans Affairs. While blame has been directed at the VA, I’m reminded that it’s not just the government’s responsibility to help veterans in need, but everyone’s responsibility … public and private sectors, government, nonprofits and for-profit companies working together toward a common goal.

Living Spaces Funds Health Renovations Volunteers of America Los Angeles Hollywood Veterans Center

Living Spaces, a furniture retail company serving California and Arizona, has partnered with CBS EcoMedia to make critical upgrades to the Hollywood Veterans Center, operated by Volunteers of America, Greater Los Angeles. These upgrades will enhance the environment at the Center in ways that have been proven to be effective in alleviating symptoms of PTSD, including hypervigilance, stress, anxiety and severe depression. The Hollywood Veterans Center is a residential facility for veterans of the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars who are experiencing severe levels of difficulty readjusting to civilian life.

Karen Courageously Marches On

When Karen was 22, she joined the Air Force. She loved the camaraderie and the structure it gave her life. But once out of the military, Karen's life took a turn... one she didn't expect. Civilian life and health problems sent Karen spiraling downward until she pulled herself up by her boot straps and back to the structure and support provided through a Volunteers of America veterans' program.
